Glengarry Poll Dorset stud has attained the No1 SIL Terminal Sire Ranking 5 Times (2004 Glengarry 68-01, 2005 Glengarry 430-03, 2009, 2010 Glengarry 570-06 and 2017 Glengarry 181-12).
Many other rams are spread throughout the other SIL ACE List Traits.

Growth - Since 1976 we have been using performance recording information (National Flock Recording, Sheep Plan, Animal Plan and Sheep Improvement Limited (SIL)) to select for superior growth. Early maturing lambs = $$ in the bank earlier.

Eye muscle quality (LoinMax Gold*) - We have been also selecting for Eye Muscle area for the last 20 years and DNA Testing for the LoinMax Gold Gene. = Higher Value Carcases.

Easy care traits - Unassisted lambing for 30 years and of recent times some selection emphasis is on the bareness of the crutch area. (See photo below). = Less labour.

Foot score - All Sire Rams DNA tested for Foot Score. (A genetic test that identifies the degree of foot rot resistance.)

Fertility & Survival - Our hardy flock is farmed at 1800 - 2137 feet above sea level where only the superior survive. Selection for Fertility & Survival using SIL information is ongoing. = More vigorous lambs and greater selection

Culling - Flock replacements are only selected from the top 50% of SIL records, with a big emphasis on feet and general soundness.
